To take part in the Summer Reading Tree Program, get a Reading Tree form from Thurles Library and fill in details of each library book you read over the summer. Each time you return books to the library; the title of the book will be recorded on “leaves” with your name and attached to our reading tree. If children are not already members of the library they can come along with a parent and join up, it’s FREE.
The Summer Reading Tree helps children discover the pleasure and excitement of books. When children read what they enjoy, they learn to love reading and become better readers. By completing the challenge children will have a sense of achievement associated with the Library.
The Reading Tree will take part over July and August and there will be a big party in September when each child who participates will be awarded a certificate and a reading medal!
In September 2007 over 130 children were presented with their reading medals and certificates in an award ceremony at Thurles Library. These children borrowed close to 1000 books from the library during July and August.
